This site collects as little as it can get away with. Here's the lot, in plain English.
The email list
If you sign up for the daily quote, we store your email address. That's it. It's used to send you one quote each morning at about 7am, and nothing else. The legal basis is your consent, which is why there's a confirm link to click before anything gets sent.
We keep your address until you unsubscribe. The unsubscribe link at the bottom of every email wipes your record straight away. The emails themselves go out through Resend, which handles delivery and sees the address for that reason alone.
Favourites
When you tap the heart on a quote, your browser is given a random ID that sits in a cookie, so the count reflects people rather than taps. There's no name, no email, nothing that points back to you.
Cookies
A small handful, all set by this site, none of them for tracking or advertising:
- a session cookie, so forms work,
- a CSRF token, which stops other sites submitting those forms for you,
- once you've signed up, a flag that remembers you did, so the form stops nagging you.
Analytics
We count page views with GoatCounter, which sets no cookies and doesn't build a profile of you. It records the page, a rough country from your IP (the IP itself isn't kept), and the site that sent you. That's it, and it's why there's no annoying cookie banner.
Server logs
The company that hosts the site keeps standard web logs (your IP address, your browser, the page you asked for) for a short while. That's for security and fixing things when they break.
Your rights
You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Use the contact form and we'll sort it within a month. If you're not happy with how we've handled it, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Who runs this
Fuck Your Excuses, a small project based in the UK. The best way to reach us is the contact form.
